Analyzing Data!
Data Analysis can be very interesting! Our science department gave a benchmark two weeks ago. After going through students who failed the benchmark and showed a trend of failing summative assessments we reduced down the list to 112 students that we have concerns about. Out of the 112, we found 21 students that are highly at risk of failing. Our next step is to compare that list with the SMART Goal that was developed earlier on in the year. Which of the 112 students meet the Inquiry lab requirements to get pulled for tutoring during the school day?

Inquiry Lab Tutoring
Action Research has many benefits. Not only is action research a way to improve school success, it is a way for the individual conducting the research to continue to grow professionally. Principals can become stagnant within their position since its easy to focus on the day-to-day operations of the school. By conducting this type of principal inquiry it allows a person to continue to view the concern in a systematic intentional way.
Most action research can be categorized into 9 different passions that are studied to reshape and reform school practice. One passion that I am currently researching is School Performance. The following describes the action research that this blog will cover.
Our school has done a great job at trying to find ways to raise student achievement. When our science scores came back just one student short of being recognized, our school did an overhaul on how to put safety nets in place for students. One item in this plan was to develop time within the school day that students who did not meet expectations could be pulled out of an elective to get a little extra help. Our 8th grade science scores became exceptional because of it. However, just like any other new program, I would like to improve and find ways to make even more students successful. The goal of this action research is to document student's data that are being pulled to find ways to improve on the plan.
Although there may be many different ways to utilize the data we collect, I will get a better idea of how to improve our program once I am able to study trends or patterns. A few areas that I would like to focus on within this action research project is, the amount of pullout for each student, the amount of time the original teacher is tutoring before and after school, and the percentage points gained for each student because of the in-school tutoring.
